How to Use This Tool

This tool converts bank statement CSVs into QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) files directly in your browser. No data is uploaded or sent to any server.

  1. Provide your bank statement — Paste CSV text, upload a file, or try the sample dataset to see how it works.
  2. Choose your account type — Select Bank Account or Credit Card to set the correct QIF header.
  3. Map your columns — Use the Column Mapping panel to tell the tool which of your CSV columns correspond to QIF fields (Date, Amount, Payee, Memo, Category, Check Number). Columns with matching names are mapped automatically.
  4. Download your QIF file — Once all required fields are mapped, the output appears instantly. Copy it to your clipboard or save it as transactions.qif for import into Quicken, GnuCash, or other finance apps.

FAQ

5 questions
Does this tool upload my bank statement data?
No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your financial data never leaves your device — no server receives, stores, or processes it.
What is QIF format?
QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) is a plain text format used by Quicken, GnuCash, and other personal finance apps to import transactions. Each transaction uses single-letter field codes like D (date), T (amount), and P (payee).
How are dates handled?
The tool detects your bank's date format automatically and converts all dates to MM/DD/YYYY, the standard QIF date format.
What's the difference between Bank Account and Credit Card?
This controls the QIF file header — Bank Account uses !Type:Bank and Credit Card uses !Type:CCard. Choose the type that matches the account you're importing into.
What if my bank shows debits as positive numbers?
Open the Options panel and check 'Negate amounts' to flip the sign on all Amount values so debits appear as negative in your finance app.
